La riflessione risale al giugno dello scorso anno; ma non ha perso la sua ineludibile pregnanza ed è tuttora da prendere in seria considerazione.
La crisi demografica e l’avanzata islamica rendono più che mai attuale l’esortazione lanciata nel 2003 da papa Giovanni Paolo II di Antonio Gaspari
Era il 28 giugno del 2003 quando il servo di Dio Giovanni Paolo II nell’esortazione apostolica post-sinodale Ecclesia in Europa gridava: “non avere paura, svegliati Europa, ritrova te stessa! Rinnova le tue radici cristiane!”. A distanza di circa sette anni, quell’appello è diventato quanto mai urgente e profetico. La crisi di civiltà che sfida il mondo in questo inizio di terzo millennio trova nell’Europa la sua origine e la sua soluzione. L’aspetto più grave della congiuntura non riguarda la crisi economica-finanziaria, che paradossalmente, con l’Euro più debole, potrebbe riavviare l’economia reale, favorendo le esportazioni e incrementando le opportunità di lavoro.
La vera natura della crisi profonda dell’Europa è causata dal drammatico crollo delle nascite. Dalla metà degli anni Settanta, da quando cioè sono emerse le leggi che hanno legalizzato l’interruzione volontaria di gravidanza, le culle vuote si sono moltiplicate, i giovani sono diminuiti e gli anziani aumentati. Secondo il rapporto sulla Famiglia in Europa stilato dall’Instituto de Política Familiar (IPF) e calcolato sui dati forniti dall’Eurostat, nei 27 Paesi membri dell’Unione Europea nel 2008 si è praticata un’interruzione volontaria di gravidanza ogni 26 secondi, 138 all’ora, 3.309 ogni giorno, per un totale di 1.207.646 aborti in un anno. La dimensione del fenomeno è drammatica. Negli ultimi 15 anni (1994-2008) sono stati effettuati negli ospedali dei Paesi della Ue oltre 18 milioni di aborti, facendo dell’interruzione volontaria di gravidanza la prima causa di morte nella Ue. Il fenomeno delle culle vuote ha stravolto il rapporto tra numero di giovani e persone anziane. Negli ultimi 15 anni, nell’Unione Europea, la popolazione con età inferiore ai 14 anni è passata da 89 milioni del 1993 a 74,8 milioni del 2008, con una riduzione di oltre dieci milioni di giovani. In Italia attualmente c’è un teenager ogni sette persone e un over 65 anni ogni cinque persone. Se il trend demografico di un continente che invecchia e non fa bambini non viene ribaltato, è chiaro che L’Europa non avrà le forze né l’energia per affrontare e superare le crisi di questo terzo millennio, ed è destinata ad un triste decadimento.

The demographic collapse along with the weakening of the Christian faith in Europe is by encouraging the growth of Islam in a scenario that mourned Oriana Fallaci called Eurabia. This hope is founded on Christ's victory over sin and death. He wanted this victory is yours for your salvation and your joy. Be sure! The Gospel of hope does not disappoint! The vicissitudes of your history of past and present, is the light that illuminates and guides your way, it is force that sustains you in trials, is the prophecy of a new world is an indication of a new beginning, is an invitation to all, believers and not to blaze new trails that lead into Europe of the spirit, to make it a true 'common home' where there joie de vivre. "
